Ripples gone, detail kept

Moiré removal rewards zooming in: the rainbow ripples vanish without softening the halftone texture they originated from, because the interference pattern occupies different frequency space than the underlying image detail. Dust specks lift similarly cleanly — isolated outliers surrounded by consistent context are the easiest correction problem enhancement ever faces.

Frequently asked questions

What is moiré and why does it show up on scanned photos?

It is an interference pattern between two regular grids — your scanner's sensor grid and the halftone dots printers used to simulate continuous tone. Overlap them slightly out of phase and rainbow ripple patterns emerge that exist in neither original.

Does this remove dust specks automatically?

Yes — scanner-glass dust and hairs register as high-contrast isolated specks, which detection removes cleanly. Dense dust fields improve substantially though perfection on every single grain is honestly not guaranteed.

Should I scan at a higher DPI before uploading?

If rescanning is easy, yes — 300 DPI minimum, 600 better for small prints. More real pixels give every downstream fix more to work with. But don't rescan just for this tool; current scans usually suffice.

Does this work on scanned negatives, not just prints?

Negative scans invert color oddly and benefit from correction here after proper inversion in scanning software. For most people with print scans only, this tool handles everything directly.

The scanner's flaws aren't the photo's.
