Can this fix a photo that's torn in half?
Yes when both halves exist and align — rejoining plus seam cleanup works well. If one half is missing entirely, we restore everything around the gap honestly but cannot conjure the lost content.
What if part of a face is missing from the tear?
Partial overlap repairs plausibly when enough facial structure remains to anchor reconstruction. A fully missing face will not be invented — anyone promising otherwise is generating a stranger's face onto your relative.
Should I scan or photograph the torn print?
Scan flat at 300 DPI if possible — pieces laid in position without forcing alignment. Photographing works too: daylight, directly above, no flash, pieces undisturbed. Whatever you choose, capture at high resolution even though the damage seems to justify haste — reconstruction quality scales directly with how many pixels surround each tear line.
